Simão Monteiro Belo dos Santos from the Biosensors group of KU Leuven embarks on a three-month research stay

We are thrilled to announce that Simão Monteiro Belo dos Santos from the Biosensors group of Prof. Jeroen Lammertyn is embarking on a three-month research stay at the INTERFIBIO group under the supervision of Dr. Ciara O'Sullivan and Dr. Vasoula Skouridou.

During his visit, Simão will focus on developing Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (RPA) assays and nucleic acid-based lateral flow assays (NALFA) to detect female-specific genes in allantoic fluid. His work will involve optimizing RPA reaction parameters, designing tailed primers for NALFA, and refining the assay to function with minimal sample and buffer volumes.

Once fully developed, the NALFA will seamlessly integrate with the SIMPLE microfluidic chip that Simão has been developing during his PhD, enabling a fully autonomous microfluidic platform for in ovo sexing.

This collaboration highlights the innovative research being conducted at both the Lammertyn’ lab and INTERFIBIO, and we look forward to the advancements that will emerge from this partnership.
