Welcoming Our New PhD Students: Maryam Shafizade and Monica Choudhary

We are thrilled to announce the addition of two exceptional PhD students to our research group: Maryam Shafizade and Monica Choudhary. Their diverse backgrounds and innovative research will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of our scientific endeavors.

Maryam Shafizade graduated in Applied Chemistry from Chamran University in 2018. She furthered her education with a Master's in Analytical Chemistry from the Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Research Center of Iran in 2021. Maryam's research focuses on optical sensors, and she is currently pursuing her PhD in DNA-scaffold Sensors and Chemical Engineering at the University Rovira i Virgili under the supervision of Dr. Claudio Parolo. Her expertise and dedication to developing cutting-edge sensor technologies make her a valuable addition to our team.

Monica Choudhary is a PhD student in the Nanoscience, Materials, and Chemical Engineering program and a recipient of the prestigious Martí i Franquès scholarship. She holds a Master's in Advanced Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a Bachelor's in Biotechnology from India. Monica's research is centered on developing biosensors for toxin detection using electrochemical methods. Her work integrates nanomaterials, surface functionalization, and innovative detection strategies to enhance biosensing technologies. Monica has contributed to the development of electrochemical aptasensors for cortisol detection and biosensing platforms using porous alumina and silicon for early-stage infection diagnosis. Additionally, she has worked on designing optomechanical biosensors with mechanochromic response for sensitive and selective analyte detection in liquid samples. Passionate about nanotechnology-driven healthcare solutions, Monica is committed to advancing next-generation biosensors for medical diagnostics and disease monitoring. She is pursuing her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Alex Fragoso and Dr. Lluis Masip.

We are excited to see the impact that Maryam and Monica will have on our research projects and look forward to their contributions to the scientific community. Please join us in welcoming them to our team!
