  • Senior staff

  • Bio: Claudio Parolo obtained his BSc (2007) and MSc (2009) in Industrial Biotechnology from the University of Padova (Italy). Between 2010 and 2013, he worked on his PhD in Biotechnology under the supervision of Prof. Merkoçi at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, focusing on plastic and paper-based biosensors. In 2012, he was a visiting PhD student in the group of Prof. Whitesides at Harvard University, working on paper-based electrodes. Between 2013 and 2015, he was a postdoctoral research associate in the Prof. McKendry group at the London Centre for Nanotechnology and University College London, working on early sensing systems for infectious diseases. From 2015 to 2018, he was a Beatriu de Pinos fellow in the Prof. Plaxco group at the University of California, Santa Barbara, working on electrochemical DNA scaffold sensors and electrochemical aptamer-based sensors. Between 2019 and 2021, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow in Prof. Merkoçi's group at ICN2, working on several rapid diagnostic platforms. In 2021, he joined as Assistant Research Professor the Barcelona Institute of Global Health, working closely with Prof. M.D. Muñoz on the development of travel-adapted rapid diagnostic tests for malaria, dengue, and other neglected tropical diseases. Finally, since April 2024, Claudio joined the Interfibio group as a Ramón y Cajal researcher, continuing his pursuit of developing biosensors for clinical applications.
