Interfibio and IS Global Joint Meeting: Advancing Collaborative Research

On Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, members of Interfibio and IS Global convened for a joint meeting aimed at fostering collaboration and strengthening bonds. The focus of this session centered on the innovative research projects presented by PhD students. These projects spanned diverse areas, from nucleic acid-based diagnostic assays to reproductive health initiatives. The work showcased during this collaborative gathering was the following:

  1. Christine Justo: Development of nucleic acid-based diagnostic assays: Christine's research aims to create a comprehensive point-of-care test for female sexual health.

  2. Elisenda: Detection of anti-VAR2CSA antibodies for malaria surveillance: Elisenda's project focuses on improving malaria detection during antenatal care visits.

  3. Ulises Diaz: Rapid tetrodotoxin detection using an aptamer-antibody sandwich assay: Ulises explores a novel approach to detecting this potent neurotoxin.

  4. Julia: Prognosis of malaria with an LFA and smartphone: Julia investigates a convenient method for malaria prognosis.

  5. Afraa Razouk: Enhancing reproductive health in low-income countries: Afraa's work addresses critical health disparities.

  6. Laura: Detecting Group B Streptococcus: Laura's research contributes to early identification of this bacterial infection.

  7. Shaira Acosta: DNA aptamers for rapid tuberculosis detection: Shaira's magnetic bead-bait approach shows promise in tuberculosis diagnostics.

  8. Qiuyue: PfLDH detection using an EAB sensor: Qiuyue explores a sensitive method for malaria diagnosis.

  9. Cansu Pinar Yenice: Parallelized quantitative electrochemical isothermal amplification: Cansu's project advances diagnostic techniques.

  10. Maria: Epitope mapping of the NIE antigen: Maria's research sheds light on immune responses.

This collaborative meeting sets the stage for exciting future collaborations and breakthroughs in global health research.
