Celebrating a New Doctor in the House: Dr. Christine Justo!
We are thrilled to announce that Ms. Christine Aubrey Justo has successfully defended her doctoral thesis, and is now officially Dr. Christine Justo!
Thesis Title:
DEVELOPMENT OF DNA-BASED ASSAYS FOR THE DETECTION OF TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS
The thesis was supervised by Dr. Ciara O' Sullivan, Dr. Miriam Jauset Rubio and Dr. Vasoula Skouridou.
About the Thesis:
Dr. Justo Castro's work focuses on the development of low-cost, rapid DNA-based assays for the detection of Trichomonas vaginalis, the leading cause of trichomoniasis - the world's most prevalent, non-viral, curable STI.
Addressing a critical global health priority identified by the World Health Organization, her research presents innovative DNA-based lateral flow tests designed for implementation in point-of-care settings, especially in low- and middle-income countries. These assays aim to replace syndromic diagnosis with precise etiological detection, moving closer to the WHO's 2030 goal of a 50% reduction in trichomoniasis cases and the broader vision of eliminating STIs as a public health threat.
Dr. Justo Castro's work represents a significant step forward in global STI diagnostics, offering potential solutions to bridge gaps in accessibility and accuracy.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Justo on this incredible milestone and her contribution to advancing the field of infectious disease diagnostics!
