A New Milestone in Science! Congratulations to Dr. Cansu Yenice Pinar!

We are delighted to announce that Cansu Yenice Pinar has successfully defended her doctoral thesis, "NEXT GENERATION MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTIC ELECTROCHEMICAL PLATFORMS", and is now officially Dr. Cansu Pinar

A big shoutout to her supervisors, Dr. Ciara O'Sullivan and Dr. Mayreli Ortiz, for their guidance.

About the Thesis:
Dr. Pinar's research focuses on leveraging the advantages of electrochemical detection to develop cutting-edge molecular diagnostic platforms. Her work addresses key challenges in DNA and RNA biosensing, such as sensitivity, electrode material compatibility, and sensor regenerability.

In the first part of her thesis, she developed redox-labeled strategies to enable simultaneous and ratiometric electrochemical detection of DNA nucleobases, advancing towards a robust approach for electrochemical DNA sequencing.

The second part of her research introduced versatile platforms for detecting DNA, viral RNA, and Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), using methods like isothermal amplification and solid-phase electrochemical techniques. Her innovative approaches were validated with real-world applications, including:

  • SARS-CoV-2 detection of RdRP, N, and E genes without RNA purification or reverse transcription.
  • High-risk HPV detection using solid-phase bridge RPA amplification.
  • SNP analysis leveraging electrochemical melting curve techniques.

Dr. Pinar's work represents a  step forward in molecular diagnostics, paving the way for more accessible, accurate, and cost-effective diagnostic solutions for global health challenges.

Congratulations, Dr. Cansu Pinar for this achievement!
